5/10/2012--Knaresborough & Harrogate

Today was a busy day! I forgot half of the things that we did until I looked through our pictures and was reminded of them. We started the morning off with breakfast in bed. Heidi has been a fabulous host. Please ignore the scary people in the pictures.  In our defense, we just barely woke up and hadn't even looked in the mirror yet.

DeAnn decided that we should become chimney sweeps since there are tons of chimneys here.  It's bound to be a successful profession.  Notice that these ones look like chess pieces! Super cool.

On our way to the train station we saw real holly. It looks just like fake holly, only more real.

DeAnn was a little put-out that we made her run, but we were just in time for our train. Perfect!

Lots of tickets for a full day of train riding

The first place we went was Knaresborough (pronounced NEZBRO).  It was a super cute little town.

There were checkerboard houses...

And real thatched roofs!

We tried to go to Mother Shipton's Cave where you can make anything turn into petrified stone (like teddy bears and hats), but it was closed due to flooding. We were a little bummed, but the trip was still well worth it.

My favorite part of Knaresborough was the pretty bridge that crosses the River Nidd.
And they had the prettiest red and green boats!

NOTE TO SELF: canvas shoes do not keep your feet dry. I was going to wear rainboots, but then decided against it. Definitely a bad decision. Within the first hour off the train my feet were soaked and DeAnn (being our motherly figure) tried to find me shoes in every charity shop that we went into.  Once we left Knaresborough though they didn't feel cold and wet at all. I think they just got used to it.

DeAnn made sure to tell me when to cross the street and when not to. She is under strict orders to make sure I don't get hit by a car. I didn't realize how often I stand in the middle of the road to take pictures until I had someone yelling at me every time I do. haha.  I am definitely lucky to have her.

We spent most of the day going through antique stores and charity shops. This one had a million little staircases and attics.
For lunch we went to the Lavender Room in Knaresborough and had soup and scones. I was not hungry at all today!  Everyone else would be starving and I didn't even want to think about eating.   I think I ate so much yesterday that it just counted for both days. My eating schedule is super confused.

After lunch DeAnn found a wonderful man, but he had a heart of stone so she dumped him. We all supported the decision, although it was a nice little fling.

We also went to the castle in Knaresborough. The ruins were super small but pretty cool, and there was an amazing view from them.

For dinner (or "tea" as they call it here), we went to Betty's. It was so cute!  It was the best teaparty food I've ever had for sure, and the hot cocoa was to die for.

After dinner I was suffering from buyer's remorse and couldn't decide what to do.  As we were walking down the street I made this face and said "I just need to chill out!"  It was funny because right then we passed the Urban Chill store. I think I need to have chill out moments more often. Most things really aren't as big of a deal as I make them.
